FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Do you have a Metallix application video because I don't like reading instructions and I have a short attention span?

1. What is the difference between the MEK effect and the Metallix effect ?

The difference between the applications are the following:

A. MEK is a highly flammable cleanup solvent and is very strong smelling. The strong smell usually dissipates within 10 hours. It is not recommended for interior use unless you have adequate ventilation. If you have a condo or building that has attached units, please make sure you apply MEK when no one is around. Also, please turn off any furnace or hot water tank pilot lights prior to using.

The MEK effect is achieved by dispersing the MEK with a paint brush by sprinkling the effect on top of the wet basecoat. You can then use a leaf blower to move the solvent around in swirl patterns.

Due to the thinness and quick flash off point of the MEK, it has a more random and unique dispersion look than our eco-friendly and interior safe Metallix effect.

B. Our Metallix effect (interior safe formula) is achieved by dispersing the effects with a paint brush by sprinkling the effect on top of the wet basecoat. It's thicker consistency gives a the effect a more uniform droplet looks.

2. I painted my garage floor and I have dust and debris in the coating, what happened?

Due to the long drying times of the Metallix effects, dust can settle in the coating. As with any coating, you must make sure the area you are coating is extremely clean and dust free. Close all vents, use clean lint-free rollers and use plastic poly sheeting to close of entry ways to avoid any debris blowing in.

3. I just coated my basement floor with the Metallix system and it doesn't look like the picture example I used to choose my colors; did I do something wrong?

Here are a few pointers regarding the end result of your Metallix coating:

A. Metallix is a 100% solids epoxy and is self leveling which will constantly move and shift until it tacks up. This process can last a few hours. Here is an example of before and after pictures of the Metallix effect being applied and the final result. Again, this is the reaction based on individual colors and technique. Some metallic colors weigh more and stay in place and lighter colors tend to expand and flow out more:

B. All colors react different with each other. Therefore, we can not guarantee or warranty the final look of your floor as results are unpredictable and based on individual artistic technique. Your best bet would to choose colors combinations that are in our Metallix coating photo gallery so you have an idea of what the outcome will be.

4. I used the Metallix system and Metallix effects in my bathroom and it all the Metallix effects colors ran down to my drain. Why did this happen?

Metallix is a 100% solids epoxy and is self leveling which will constantly move and shift until it levels off. If your concrete is uneven or sloped, be aware that this can happen. We have two suggestions that can possibly remedy the situation:

A. Use the same color effect as the basecoat so any running will not be that noticeable if at all.

B. You can also wait 15-30 minutes before applying the Metallix effects to give the basecoat time to settle and self level.
